Behind an unassuming doorway in the heart of the Medina, this tranquil Moroccan oasis is the perfect counterpart to Marrakesh’s bustling souks, offering stunning mountain vistas, sun-dappled patios, and gorgeously appointed rooms.

With 28 individually styled rooms and suites, tree-filled courtyards, a 7000ft roof terrace, and a family of resident tortoises, El Fenn is the perfect retreat to enjoy Africa’s most exotic city. Combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces, and gardens, the hotel is just five minutes from the world-famous Djemaa el Fna square and a bustling maze of streets that make up the souk.

The Details

What makes it Kobu

Owners Vanessa Branson and Howell James came to Marrakech in 2002 with a simple mission: to find themselves a pied-à-terre. Little did they know that when they stumbled upon the ruined courtyard of this abandoned private home that their simple vision would grow into so much more. The couple imprinted their own style onto the hotel, offering something a little different to Marrakech.
Art and culture are a key thread in the fabric of life at El Fenn. Our co-owner Vannessa Branson brought pieces from her own private art collection to hang in the hotel when it opened in 2004 and today works by contemporary artists including Fred Pollock & Antony Gormley hang throughout El Fenn in bedrooms & public spaces. Elsewhere you’ll see photography, sculpture and painting as part of the rolling exhibitions we host several times a year. We were also the hub for the Marrakech Biennale during its six editions and continue to champion the vibrant community of Moroccan visual artists.
