SONMO: Where tradition meets modern artistry

SONMO Farm Mallorca

Nestled in the heart of Mallorca, SONMO (the abbreviation of Son Moragues) is more than a farm or a store—it’s a reflection of the island’s rich heritage and a beacon of modern craftsmanship. It encapsulates everything that makes the island special: deep-rooted traditions, sustainable agriculture, a commitment to working with the land to create timeless pieces, and, of course, people.

A Local Dream Come to Life.

SONMO is the brainchild of an artisan who fell in love with the idea of reviving agricultural traditions and elevating them into modern artistry. His project is driven by a desire to “promote life as it used to be two centuries ago”—a time when the land provided everything people needed, and craftsmanship was a deeply personal endeavor. Everything tells a story here, from the ancient olive groves that yield oil to the hand-woven textiles that embody texture and history.

SONMO is a vision of a self-sustaining way of life where everything the land can provide is celebrated. This dedication to local resources extends even to their candles, which can be custom-made with scents inspired by the mountains and seas of Mallorca.

From Farm to Pantry: A Celebration of Local Ingredients.

Start your SONMO experience with a walk through their pantry, where everything is certified organic. The olive oil—produced locally and using heritage agricultural techniques—is stored in stunning hand-blown bottles made by Gordiola. This family-run company has been blowing glass on the island for over 300 years, ever since they brought the secrets of artisan glass blowing from Murano, Venice. Alongside the oil, shelves are filled with jams and marmalades, all made from fruits grown on the island and inspired by flavors that have thrived for centuries.

Craftsmanship Rooted in the Land.

The ceramics at SONMO result from two years of research completed in 2023. The ash from local trees is transformed into glaze, giving the pieces a unique texture and color palette reminiscent of olive stones and earthy tones. Their textiles, debuting in 2024, are equally grounded in the land: stones, wool, and natural dyes come together to create everything from blankets to rugs, each piece designed with traditional patterns and brought to life on a loom. The commitment to slow production is evident in every step of the process. Wool is sourced from local sheep, and old textile machines—some 100 to 200 years old—are being restored to revive the manual techniques of the past. The team’s dedication to natural dyes ensures every thread has a story. Indigo, sourced from Turkey, is used to create soft blues, while the green dye takes time to develop, as green pigments do not occur naturally. Each apron, rug, and blanket is a labor of love, requiring precision, patience, and an understanding of the land’s rhythm—even accounting for the PH levels that influence the beeswax protection used on fabrics.

SONMO’s ambitions continue with a new gin project. In partnership with a local distiller, botanicals from the Tramontana Mountains will be blended to create a gin representing the perfect synergy between the old and the new, capturing the island’s natural bounty while supporting artisanal production.

A Reward for Those Who Value Tradition.

SONMO offers more than products—it offers a way of life. Whether you’re sipping their botanical gin, drizzling their olive oil over fresh bread, or wrapping yourself in a wool blanket woven with care, SONMO’s creations remind us to slow down and appreciate the beauty in simplicity and connection to the island’s heritage.

It’s about promoting a philosophy rooted in authenticity and craftsmanship, where Mallorca’s past, present, and future intertwine. If you ever find yourself on the island, SOMO is a must-visit—a place where artisans and farmers come together to celebrate the island.
