The American dream

Den Norske Amerikalinjen was founded in 1910, with its maiden voyage counting royalty and government officials among its guests. As emigrating to America gained in popularity, the line quickly became a symbol for Norwegians seeking their fortune. The now-Amerikalinjen building opened in 1919 and remained the headquarters until the business was closed in 1995.

Old and new

You'll find many of this building's original features have been restored - like the ornate ceilings, parquet flooring and heavy wooden doors. These have been sympathetically enhanced with art-deco mirrors and simple, modern furnishings to create a modern-traditional heaven.
