Hakone Retreat Villa 1/f – Hakone

Sengokuhara, Japan, From £136

Nature both heals and inspires awe. Amid the murmur of trees, the trickle of water and the scent of soil. Nestled in the rich forest ecosystem of Sengokuhara, Nest Inn is a traditional hot spring inn that's been renovated with imagination and sensitivity.

The villa consists of eleven stand-alone bungalows, connected by a single path that traverses spacious grounds. All of them have rooms that differ according to the ground and environmental setting.

What makes this Kobu?

What makes this Kobu?

The hot spring

Nestled in the greenery you'll find the focal point of the property: the hot spring. It's piped in from the Owakudani spring, so the water is rich in minerals that will pack your skin full of nutrients. The hotel even provides organic, synthetic-free skincare that uses carefully blended essential oils for pure relaxation.

The design

The rich vegetation, streams, ponds and views of the mountains have all been merged into the design of each space. Project director Tamotsu Yagi carefully selected the artwork displayed in each room. Pieces by cutting-edge artists such as Lauren McIntosh can be found around the entire property.
