Built in 1746 by order of the young Maharana Jagat Singh II of Udaipur, with the purpose of a “palace of pleasure”. The palace hosted the grand soirees and formal balls of the royal family of Udaipur. It became famous as a fairytale location - the palace of the lake. Magic that remains today.
Walk on water
The hotel's reflection in the lake almost transports you to this magical land in the water. Staying here, you truly feel as if you are in an Indian fairytale. The Taj goes beyond what it is to stay in a hotel. It is a unique experience of what it's like to be royalty.
Emerging like a mirage in the middle of Lake Pichola, The Taj Lake Place sits on the surface of the lake like a magnificent ship. Gaining a reputation as one of the world's most romantic holiday locations, the Taj Lake Palace is famous for its unrivalled views of the “Venice of the East” - the city of Udaipur. (That as well as being the setting for the James Bond “Octopussy" movie). The palace encompasses Indian grandeur as well as Indian hospitality. A space where regal eastern style and flawless service meet.
